There are two sims that may be affected by cancer in their family that don't need to buy specific food, but can use the food type. Cancer doesn't need to eat healthily, the sims are exempt from the "Healthy Diet" and "Healthy Nutrition" perks, which makes their life a little more comfortable. Food can make people moody if they are eating unhealthy (lose appetite, etc.) which affects their mood. When they eat healthily, they gain health and mood boosts for a small duration (I think it was a minute). In their own defense, I'm not sure if cancer sims eat regularly, I think some part of them eats regularly, but some don't. In any case, an unsteady eating pattern is often caused by a moody sim in their family.
Cancer literally causes death. Sims that become ill now will die within a short period of time. Even without ill sims, the rate of death in the Discover University builds goes up, and the rate of depression increases. The "Death" moodlet is added on top of the "Illness" moodlet, and it can be removed by donating to an alternative cure.
Cancer has a lot of negative effects on the sim, and the Discover University system. The lowered mood of many sims is avoided by dividing them among work, romance, and parties. Because it's the Sims 2, it makes sense to add a big party lot and a big group, but it does leave some friends stranded. However, it helps make "College Life" interesting, since it is possible to go crazy without a release. d2c66b5586
