To that end, I have decided to take a more traditional approach and install a Linux-based file server. As cost is an issue, I have been pricing out some bare-bones solutions upon which I can build. Also, I have decided to build a Linux From Scratch OS onto the box, instead of installing a heavy distro. I like Mandriva and Ubuntu, but I really do not want to have all that extra software and package management to deal with.
I did everything the same as above, downloaded the video player and rebooted into it. This time it went right to Windows internet explorer. Next time I've heard lots of Windows chime at me. This time I told it not to start my laptop and rebooted.
I am confident that the wireless chipset is present. It does not work when I run the command iwconfig. I run the command modinfo rtl8812au and it says that I have the driver loaded.
I've done this and have the same problem in that i can't get a connection. I had installed NP7 ubuntu back in feb. 2010 so i could get wireless. I have since updated to 10.10 and it is still unable to connect to my router. d2c66b5586
