The loss event in angiosperms may have occurred independently several times, and most of the species are currently lacking a infA gene in their plastid genomes. In addition, the loss event may have been accelerated by the use of the infA gene for plastid-encoded psaA and psbA expression in angiosperm nuclear genomes.
